Gas Station Employee Arrested on Larceny Charges

Clay County Lt. Brandon Coker received two reports from the Hayesville Hot Spot Store Manager that she had discovered the theft of lottery tickets by one of her employees. The employee was identified as Trent Christopher Douthit, 21 years of age from Murphy. The thefts were confirmed by a security video.
The thefts occurred on 09/19/26 involving five tickets valued at $250 and on 09/22/26 involving twenty-one tickets valued at $440. These thefts were also corroborated through the store’s lottery ticket inventory and by a written confession from Douthit himself.
Douthit was charged with two felony counts of Larceny by Employee. Douthit was initially held with no bond due to already being on pretrial release for a Driving While Impaired charge.
All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
