HAYESVILLE, NC – Hayesville High School senior Jackson Sellers officially signed his National Letter of Intent Wednesday to continue his baseball career at Caldwell Community College & Technical Institute in Hudson, N.C.
The talented two-way player leaves behind a standout legacy with the Yellow Jackets. Over his four-year career, Sellers was a key contributor to four straight Smoky Mountain Conference championships, excelling both on the mound as a pitcher and at the plate as a hitter. Sellers capped his senior season with an impressive .593 batting average, the highest mark in the SMC.
His father, Joe Jack Sellers, who has coached him throughout his high school career, spoke warmly during the signing ceremony. “I know it’s hard for a kid to play for their parent, and sometimes it’s hard for a parent to coach their own kid,” Coach Sellers said. “But I can honestly say Jackson was a joy to coach. He’s a hard worker, self-motivated, and always put the team’s needs before himself. I’m proud of him and can’t wait to see what he does.”

Other HHS coaches, school administrators, and a recently retired local sportswriter also praised Sellers’ character and work ethic during the event.
Before putting pen to paper, Jackson addressed the crowd of family, friends, coaches, and teammates.
“I’m truly blessed to be here today and to continue to play the sport I love,” he said. “I can’t thank everyone here at Hayesville High School for the incredible love and support they’ve shown me. I really love all of y’all.”
While Sellers had interest from several four-year programs, he ultimately chose the junior college route at Caldwell. “I really like the way Caldwell focuses on player development,” he explained. Another major factor in his decision was the program’s willingness to utilize him as a two-way player. “They are going to let me pitch and bat, which I love.”
Sellers said he is already mentally preparing for the jump to the next level. “One area I know I will be working on is adjusting to the speed of the game. Everything happens faster at the next level,” he noted. Still, he believes his approach will help him contribute right away. “I’m going to bring my team-first mentality and cheer on my teammates no matter if I’m on the field or in the dugout.”
As the ceremony wrapped up, Sellers offered some parting advice to younger baseball players in the community. “Fall in love with the sport, and don’t let the mistakes get you down. Baseball is a game of failures. It’s going to happen but keep fighting for those successes.”
The Hayesville community wishes Jackson the best as he heads to Caldwell and continues chasing his dreams on the diamond. Go Yellow Jackets — and go Cobras!
