Press Release

On 12/15/25 at 11:04 AM Clay County Sgt Ethan Henderson and Officer JJ Wooten responded to a residence off Qualla Road in Hayesville. A report had been received about a confused woman being in a home where the resident was away at that time. The Officers found Sonya Ann Miller, 60 years of age from Hayesville, inside the residence.

Officers learned that Miller had been allowed inside by the homeowner to get out of the cold and to get some food. Sgt Henderson and Officer Wooten found Miller to be in somewhat of a paranoid state of mind. Miller said she wanted to leave the residence. The Officers escorted Miller outside to a pole barn to get some of her belongings.

Once to a patrol vehicle for a ride away from the residence, Miller was asked by the Officers if she had any weapons on her person. Miller said she did not but that she had some methamphetamine. Miller reached into her jacket pocket, retrieved a folded five-dollar bill, and dropped it onto the ground. The five-dollar bill was picked up by Sgt Henderson, unfolded, and found to contain a small plastic baggy containing a substance suspected to be methamphetamine.

Miller was arrested and charged with felony Possession of Methamphetamine and was issued a $10,000 secured bond for her release.

All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
