Hayesville Yellow Jackets Cap Dominant Season with Conference Title and Playoff Run

Hayesville, N.C. — The Hayesville Yellow Jackets varsity baseball team turned an early-season stumble into a memorable 2025-26 campaign, finishing with a strong 16-5 overall record and a perfect 14-0 mark in Smoky Mountain 1A/2A Conference play to claim the league championship.

After dropping their first four games — including losses to Franklin (7-6), Union County (10-0), Pisgah (12-1), and Smoky Mountain (8-5) — the Yellow Jackets flipped the script. They embarked on a remarkable 16-game winning streak, showcasing dominant pitching, explosive offense, and relentless defense.

Hayesville overwhelmed conference and non-conference foes with blowout victories throughout the regular season. Standout performances included a 28-10 win over Hiwassee Dam, 12-2 over Murphy, and multiple double-digit wins against Andrews, Swain County, Cherokee, Robbinsville, and Rosman. The team tallied 214 runs scored while allowing just 98.

The streak included several multi-game sweeps and road dominance. By late April, Hayesville had rattled off 13, 14, and eventually 16 consecutive victories, averaging over 12 runs per game during the hot streak.

Playoff Push Ends in Third Round

The Yellow Jackets carried their momentum into the 2026 NCHSAA 2A playoffs as a top seed with a bye in round one. On May 8, they dispatched Swain County 9-2 in the second round, extending their streak to 16 games and improving to 16-4.

However, the run came to an end in the third round, as Hayesville fell to Cornerstone Charter Academy 21-8 at home. The loss snapped the 16-game winning streak and dropped the team’s final record to 16-5. Despite the defeat, the Yellow Jackets earned respect as one of the top programs in the western part of the state, finishing ranked No. 250 overall in North Carolina and No. 18 in the 2A classification.

A Season to Remember Under head coach Joe Sellers and his staff, the 2025-26 Yellow Jackets demonstrated resilience, growth, and championship caliber. Their perfect conference record marked the program’s latest title in a long history of success, and the deep playoff appearance highlighted their competitiveness at the 2A level.

As the team looks ahead, the foundation built this season positions Hayesville for continued contention in future campaigns.
