Henderson Expected to Earn Advanced Law Enforcement Certificate

HAYESVILLE, N.C. — The Clay County Sheriff's Office announced that Sgt. Ethan Henderson is expected to receive an Advanced Law Enforcement Certificate through the state’s Professional Certificate program.

The program is administered by the North Carolina Sheriffs’ Education and Training Standards Commission under the North Carolina Department of Justice.

According to the commission, the Professional Certificate program recognizes sheriffs and deputies for formal education, professional training and on-the-job experience, while encouraging continued professional development across North Carolina law enforcement.

Henderson currently holds an Intermediate Law Enforcement Certificate and is expected to earn the advanced designation after meeting all required standards outlined by the commission.

The sheriff’s office noted that several deputies have earned Professional Development Certificates during the tenure of Sheriff Buchanan, reflecting an ongoing emphasis on education and training.

Officials said the agency maintains a strong focus on training to ensure deputies are equipped with the knowledge and skills needed for modern policing. That emphasis, the office said, helps prevent mistakes that could harm the public or officers and reduces the risk of civil liability.
