Heroic Rescue at Chatuge Dam Saves Woman from Drowning

In the early hours of Sunday morning, just after midnight, Clay County Sheriff’s Office deputies Drew Judge and Chris Harper responded to a distressing call at Chatuge Dam. A woman’s screams for help echoed across the water, prompting swift action from the deputies. Upon arriving at the scene, they pinpointed the cries coming from the dark waters of the dam.


Deputy Judge quickly enlisted the aid of a nearby bass fisherman, who provided a boat to assist in the rescue. Together, Deputy Judge and the fisherman navigated to the struggling woman, who was exhausted and barely keeping her head above water. With coordinated effort, they pulled her to safety aboard the boat and brought her back to shore.Clay County Fire Department personnel and members of the U.S. Forest Service were on hand to provide further assistance once the woman reached safety. The collaborative effort ensured she received immediate care after her harrowing ordeal.


The Clay County Sheriff’s Office commended the fisherman for his quick willingness to help, as well as Deputies Judge and Harper for their decisive actions. Their teamwork and rapid response were critical in preventing a tragic outcome, likely saving the woman’s life. This incident highlights the importance of community cooperation and the dedication of local law enforcement in emergencies.
