Icy Roads Blamed for Two Single-Vehicle Crashes on U.S. 64 in Clay County


Clay County Fire & Rescue responded to two separate single-vehicle crashes Monday, Feb. 16 on U.S. 64 East near the Buck Creek Road area.


Officials said both incidents occurred around the same time and involved icy road conditions. The North Carolina Department of Transportation has been notified of the hazardous conditions.


Fire and rescue crews remained on scene working the crashes early Monday morning. No immediate information was released on injuries.


Motorists traveling to or from Macon County were urged to use caution, as ice was reported on portions of the roadway.


Drivers are reminded to slow down, increase following distance, and remain alert for emergency responders when traveling through the area.
