JV Jacket Football Keeps on Rolling

HAYESVILLE, N.C. — The Hayesville junior varsity Yellow Jackets did not so much beat Rosman on Thursday, Sept. 17 as they ran through the Tigers like a mountain thunderstorm that decided to stay for all four quarters.

Final score from Rosman High School: Hayesville 62, Rosman 26.

The conference game kicked off at 6 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 17, and by the time the lights cooled, Hayesville had piled up another lopsided win on the road and improved to 5-0 overall and 3-0 in Smoky Mountain 1A/2A play. That is first place, and it is starting to look like more than a hot start.

This is a group that has spent September treating opposing scoreboards like a suggestion box. The Jackets opened with a 42-20 home win over Mitchell, then went to Murphy and won 23-6. Cherokee left town empty, 29-0. Mountain Heritage got the same treatment last week, 35-8. Rosman, at least, put 26 on the board. Everyone else has been chasing.

Five games. One hundred ninety-one points scored. Sixty allowed. That is the kind of math that makes a Thursday night in Transylvania County feel like a statement.

The Jackets stay home next. They host Swain County on Thursday, Sept. 24, at 6 p.m., another conference date and another chance to keep the perfect record intact.
