Larceny Call for Service Leads to Vehicle Pursuit, Recovery of Stolen Property, Drugs, and Firearm

On August 25, 2026, the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office Patrol Division was investigating a report of a stolen motor vehicle and trailer when deputies received information that the property owner was following the suspect vehicle on Joe Brown Highway.

An agent of the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office Special Operations Division was in the area and located the suspect vehicle. The agent attempted to conduct a traffic stop; however, the vehicle fled at a high rate of speed.

The agent pursued the vehicle on West US-64 from Old Murphy Road to Dickey Road, where the truck eventually came to a stop. The driver and passenger both fled the vehicle on foot. The agent pursued the driver and was able to quickly apprehend him. The driver was identified as David Anthony Dixon, 30, of Knoxville, Tennessee. Following Dixon’s arrest, deputies located methamphetamine, U.S. currency, and a flare gun. An AK-47-style firearm was also located inside the vehicle.

Dixon was taken into custody and transported to the Cherokee County Detention Center. He was charged with the following offenses:

• Possession with Intent to Manufacture, Sell, or Deliver a Schedule II Controlled Substance

• Maintaining a Vehicle for the Sale of a Controlled Substance

• Felony Flee to Elude Arrest with a Motor Vehicle

• Felony Larceny

• Larceny of a Motor Vehicle

• Possession of a Firearm by a Felon

• Possession of Drug Paraphernalia

• Resisting a Public Officer

Sheriff Chris Wood stated, “I am proud of the quick response by our office. The divisions operated as intended, and a reckless offender was taken off the street. Our deputies and agents worked quickly and effectively to recover stolen property, locate illegal drugs and a firearm, and apprehend the suspect. This incident is another example of the dedication and professionalism our citizens can expect from the men and women of the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office.”

The investigation remains ongoing. Additional charges may be forthcoming.

All suspects are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
