With the stakes at their highest, the Murphy Bulldogs delivered one of their most commanding performances of the season Friday night. Hosting Albemarle in the second round of the NCHSAA state playoffs, Murphy was firing on all cylinders as they rolled to a decisive 57–14 victory.

The Bulldogs wasted no time making a statement, piling up points early and often while shutting down nearly everything Albemarle tried to get going offensively. By the time the final horn sounded, there was no doubt — Murphy had risen to the moment and simply could not be stopped.

The win marks the seventh straight for the Bulldogs, who now sit at an impressive 9–2 on the season. For Albemarle, the loss caps a challenging stretch that saw the Bulldogs from the east drop three of their final four games, finishing the season with a 5–7 record.

Friday’s victory also continues what has been a remarkable run of defensive dominance for Murphy. Over their last five games — all victories — the Bulldogs have allowed just 31 total points while putting up 211 of their own. Recent results include wins over Swain County (28–0), Hayesville (50–7), Andrews (59–0) and Robbinsville (17–10).

With momentum building and a home crowd behind them, Murphy now turns their full attention toward the next challenge: a third-round playoff matchup against Community School of Davidson. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. Friday at Murphy High School.

Both squads enter with stingy defenses — Murphy allowing just 11.7 points per game, and the Spartans giving up 14.8 — suggesting that points may come at a premium. Fans can expect a hard-fought battle between two teams that have made their name this season on toughness and execution.

With confidence high and a championship dream still alive, Murphy is one step closer — and they’ve shown they’re ready for whatever comes next.
