Murphy Sweeps Blue Ridge Early College in Non-Conference Basketball Games

Murphy High School’s basketball teams dominated both ends of the court Thursday night, handing Blue Ridge Early College (Cashiers, N.C.) decisive losses in non-conference matchups at BREC’s home gym.

The Murphy girls used a strong first quarter to set the tone, taking a 26-6 lead over the BREC Blue Ridge Early College squad. Despite a more competitive second quarter, the visitors maintained control and went on to defeat BREC 70-38. Scoring was steady across the game for Murphy, with particularly strong opening and closing quarters of 26 points each, while BREC struggled to keep pace, totaling only 38 points on the night.

On the boys’ side, Murphy outscored BREC in every quarter, starting with a 29-10 first quarter advantage and building a 71-27 final score. The home team managed a small late surge in the third quarter, but Murphy’s early lead proved insurmountable.

Both Murphy squads demonstrated depth and consistency, leaving BREC with challenges to address as the season progresses. Murphy travels to Cherokee County rival Andrews on Friday, Jan. 9th.
