On Thursday, Aug. 21, a manufactured home made it's way to its forever patch of land. The house, built by high school students, was the third to leave the campus of Union County High School. While not the first house built by students, it is the first one to cross county lines.
Escorted by multiple law enforcement vehicles, EMC vehicles and crew vehicles, the house made the 14.2 mile trek to the corner of Gumlog and Many Forks Spur in Towns County. As could be expected, the normally 22-minute trip took over an hour. Blairsville Police Department, Georgia State Patrol and the Union County Sheriff's Office blocked roads and intersections as needed in order to make the move as painless as possible for the crew and other motorists. Needless to say, a house working its way through town caused a few odd looks.
Now that it has arrived at its new address, the house is ready to be finished on the inside as bare framing currently fills the space.
