Winter Front Expected to Bring Snow, Bitter Cold to Union County This Weekend

A winter weather system is forecast to arrive in Union County over the weekend, bringing snow and dangerously cold temperatures, according to Union County Government officials.

Snow accumulation is expected to begin after midnight and continue through Saturday afternoon. The Union County Road Department said it is prepared to deploy resources as needed to help keep roads passable and maintain travel access throughout the county.

Officials said the greater concern is the extreme cold expected to follow the snowfall. Temperatures Sunday morning are forecast to drop into the single digits, with wind chills potentially falling as low as minus 15 degrees. Temperatures are not expected to rise above freezing until Monday.

County officials warned the prolonged cold could lead to frozen pipes, particularly in homes with inadequate insulation. Residents are urged to take appropriate precautions based on their individual circumstances and family needs, while remaining calm.

“This advisory serves as a precautionary notification,” the county stated, emphasizing that residents should prepare but not panic.

An additional weather briefing is scheduled for 2 p.m. today, and officials said updates will be provided if the forecast changes. Residents are encouraged to exercise caution as winter conditions develop across Union County.
