BLAIRSVILLE, Ga. — The Union County Panthers kicked off Region 7 AA play with a dominant 27-7 victory over the Murray County Indians on Friday night, showcasing a balanced offensive attack and a stout defensive performance.

Bentley Rich and Daniel McPhee led the Panthers’ offense, combining for three touchdowns. Rich opened the scoring with a 5-yard rushing touchdown in the first quarter and later capped a 99-yard drive with a 10-yard run in the third. McPhee contributed a 15-yard jet sweep touchdown, adding flair to the Panthers’ ground game.

The turning point came after Rich’s second score when Murray County fumbled the ensuing kickoff. Union County capitalized immediately, with Kamden Kendrick connecting on a 30-yard touchdown pass to Mikey Davis, further solidifying the Panthers’ lead.

Rich was a standout on both sides of the ball, finishing with 135 rushing yards and three sacks defensively. McPhee complemented his 50-yard rushing performance with three pass breakups, helping to stifle the Indians’ passing attack.

The Panthers (1-0 in Region 7 AA) will look to build on their momentum next week when they host Rockmart in their second region matchup on Friday, Sept. 12.
