Press Release

A planned firefighter training burn in downtown Murphy has been postponed by one week.

The exercise, originally scheduled for Saturday, November 7, will now take place on Saturday, November 14, at the AgSouth Farm Credit office at 105 Hiwassee Street.

AgSouth is making the existing building available to Tri-County Community College’s Public Safety Program for training before constructing a new office on the property.

Fire departments and emergency personnel from several counties have been invited to participate. The controlled burn will give firefighters valuable hands-on experience responding to a structure fire.

Certified personnel will monitor the exercise and follow safety guidelines established by the North Carolina Office of State Fire Marshal.

Residents and visitors in downtown Murphy may notice smoke and emergency vehicles in the area during the training.

A construction timeline for the new AgSouth office has not yet been announced.
