BRASSTOWN, NC — A quick shower rolled through the North Georgia mountains on Friday, June 12, but it couldn’t dampen the excitement at Tri-County Racetrack. Fans and drivers stuck it out for a full night of thrilling dirt-track racing that included makeup races from the rain-shortened Memorial Day event.
The evening delivered close competition across multiple divisions, with several local favorites shining brightly under the lights.
Shawn Chastain from Murphy, NC, started on pole and held off the field to claim the A-Feature victory in the Limited Late Models. Greg Sudderth of Brasstown, NC, finished a strong second, while Jacob Hamby (Murphy) charged from fourth to third. Colton Berrong and Shannon Helton rounded out the top five, all hailing from the Murphy area.
David McCoy of Franklin, NC, dominated the 602 Crate Late Models A-Feature, leading from the front to take the win. Cooper Twiggs finished second, followed by Michael Barnett of Hayesville in third. Chance Hughes, Dylan Beaver, and John Snow all turned in solid performances, with Snow advancing impressively from deeper in the field.
Cody Gloyne of Cherokee, NC, took top honors in the Hobby Sportsman division, showcasing strong handling throughout the feature. Jason Berrong and Brandon Cook battled for the next spots, with Cook holding on for third. Chris and Mark Conley rounded out the top 5 respectively. Jerry Buice, Doug Gunter, Heather McCoy, and Jessie McGaha also provided plenty of excitement.
Raymond Ledbetter powered his way to victory in the Front Wheel Drive feature. However, after a failed post-race inspection, Mitchell Ledbetter was named the winner and Logan Ledbetter was awarded the runner-up finish. Josh Deese, Tristen Lovingood, Michael Beeman, Josh Smith, and Glenn Coker completed the competitive field.
Chase Robinson of Hayesville, NC, took the checkered flag in the Crown Vic A-Feature. Storm Teague of Waynesville, NC, finished second in what turned out to be a short but spirited run for the division. The duo had fans on their feet as the two were side-by-side for the final handful of laps.
Todd Wade of Habersham, GA, led the way in the Pony Stock class, with Landen Payne of Demorest, GA, finishing in second.
Tri-County will be in action again on Friday, June 19 with eight divisions scheduled to take on the track and competitors with racing starting at 7:30 p.m.
