Press Release
BLAIRSVILLE, GA — Safe Pet Project, a Blairsville-based nonprofit animal welfare organization, and Lucky Dog Restaurant Group are proud to announce Meals for Mutts: a one-day community fundraiser bringing a proven model to the North Georgia mountains for the first time.
Inspired by the Atlanta Humane Society's long-running Tables for Tails event, in which patrons dine at participating restaurants and a portion of their total bill is donated to animal welfare, Meals for Mutts adapts that successful model for the Blairsville area — connecting local diners with local restaurants in support of local animals.
On Wednesday, July 22nd, participating restaurants across Blairsville will donate a portion of their proceeds to Safe Pet Project. Diners can eat in, take out, or order for their entire office. There is no voucher, no special code, and no extra cost. Every dollar raised goes directly to Safe Pet Project's programs saving animals in Union County.
"Meals for Mutts is a new way for our community to support local animals," said Rhonda Wells, Vice President of Safe Pet Project. "It's amazing how our supporters show up for animals in need and this time, all they have to do is enjoy a meal out."
Funds raised through Meals for Mutts will support Safe Pet Project's core programs, including its foster animal care network, needs-based veterinary assistance, free community microchipping clinics, and its Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) program for community cats.
Licensed by the Georgia Department of Agriculture since December 2022, Safe Pet Project is a 501(c)(3) volunteer-driven organization focused on providing resources, services, and education to animal owners throughout the region while releasing pressure on local shelters through their foster volunteer network. Safe Pet Project is a no-kill organization.
Participating restaurants include Lucky's Taqueria & Cantina, Teppanyaki Time, Sweet Pea's Downtown Eatery, Pizza Belly, Blairsville Social, Michaelee's Italian Life Caffe, Sammies Subs, Blairsville Restaurant Grits & Greens, Expedition Joe Coffee Company, The Flying Trout, and Blairsville Huddle House. Additional restaurants may be added prior to the event.
Community members are encouraged to share their Meals for Mutts experience on social media using #MealsForMuttsBlairsville. An up-to-date list of participating restaurants is available at safepetproject.org/events.
