Large-scale search operations for missing hiker Charles Hosch in the Blood Mountain area of the Appalachian Trail have been suspended following twelve consecutive days of intensive efforts.
Mr. Hosch has been missing since November 11. Over the past two weeks, local, state, and federal teams from Georgia and neighboring states deployed aircraft, drones, K-9 units, and hundreds of ground searchers across the rugged terrain. Monday evening marked the final full operational period under the original search plan.
Union County Emergency Management and the Union County Sheriff’s Office announced Tuesday that active operations are now paused effective November 25, with no major searches scheduled until new, specific information points to a different location or direction.
Any tips or leads about Mr. Hosch’s whereabouts will be thoroughly evaluated, and teams remain ready to respond immediately to credible information.
Some limited follow-up searches may still take place in previously covered areas or newly identified spots to continue ruling out possibilities and maintain a presence on the mountain.
Officials expressed heartfelt thanks to the many agencies, volunteers, and community members who contributed time, resources, and support throughout the difficult operation.
The case remains open and active. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Union County Sheriff’s Office or Union County Emergency Management right away.
