Sonoraville Phoenix Triumph Over Union County Panthers in Tight Softball Showdown

Blairsville, GA – The Sonoraville Phoenix varsity softball team secured a hard-fought 3-1 victory against the Union County Panthers in a region game held at Union County High School on Tuesday evening. The game, which showcased strong pitching and timely hitting, highlighted Sonoraville’s dominance as they improved their season record to 9-4 and maintained a perfect 4-0 in league play.
The Phoenix struck early, scoring two runs in the first inning to set the tone. P. Angel led the offense, going 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored, while M. Hall contributed with a double and an RBI. L. Hall also chipped in, crossing the plate once and adding a hit. Sonoraville’s aggressive baserunning was a key factor, as they stole five bases, keeping pressure on the Panthers’ defense throughout the game.
On the mound, A. Hall was stellar for Sonoraville, pitching five innings and allowing just one unearned run on zero hits while striking out eight. L. Mullinax closed out the game, throwing two hitless innings and fanning five, ensuring the Panthers’ bats remained silent. The Phoenix defense backed their pitchers with a .931 fielding percentage, though two errors allowed Union County’s lone run in the first inning.
Union County struggled offensively, failing to record a single hit against Sonoraville’s pitching duo. Despite a solid defensive effort with a single error, the Panthers couldn’t capitalize on their opportunities, leaving them with a 5-4 overall record and 0-2 in conference play. The loss marked their second straight defeat in league competition.
Key moments included Sonoraville’s early scoring burst in the first inning and a crucial insurance run in the fifth, which proved to be the difference in the low-scoring affair. The Phoenix’s six hits and disciplined approach at the plate, with only one walk drawn, showcased their ability to manufacture runs against a tough Union County squad.
The Lady Panthers will face Ringold on the road on Thursday, Aug. 28.
