Sorghum in the Mountains Festival to Celebrate Appalachian Heritage in Blairsville

BLAIRSVILLE, Ga. — The annual Sorghum in the Mountains festival, a vibrant celebration of Appalachian culture and sorghum syrup making, will take place over two weekends, Oct. 11-12 and Oct. 18-19, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Meeks Park, located a half-mile west of Blairsville on Highway 515.


The festival kicks off on Oct. 11 with a lively Sorghum Parade at 10 a.m. on the downtown Blairsville square, setting the tone for a family-friendly event filled with traditional crafts and activities. Attendees can enjoy arts and crafts displays, greased pole climbing, log sawing, live music, face painting, and a variety of craft vendors showcasing local talent.


Admission is $5 for those 13 and older, while children 12 and under enter free. Parking is also free, making the event accessible to all. The festival, organized by the Blairsville Union County Chamber of Commerce, highlights the time-honored process of sorghum syrup production, a staple of Appalachian heritage.
