MURPHY, N.C. — A suspicious package reported at Core Scientific on Palmer Lane in the Marble Community of Cherokee County triggered a significant law enforcement response on Wednesday, leading to the evacuation of employees as a precautionary measure, according to the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office.
At approximately 1:15 p.m., the sheriff’s office announced it was investigating the reported package, stating there was no apparent threat to the surrounding public. The operation involved assistance from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) and the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation. Authorities advised the public to avoid the Palmer Lane area due to the active law enforcement presence, which was expected to last several hours.
By 5:00 p.m., the sheriff’s office reported that a complete sweep of the facility had been conducted, with no concerning items found. Full control of the property was returned to Core Scientific, and the investigation was concluded without incident.
