Towns County Sheriff’s Office Empty Stocking Program Deadline Set for Dec. 15

YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. — The Towns County Sheriff’s Office is accepting applications for its Empty Stocking Program to provide Christmas gifts for local children from birth through age 12. The deadline to sign up is Dec. 15.
Parents or guardians may register children by calling the Sheriff’s Office at 706-896-4444. Officials will request information including clothing sizes, favorite colors, interests, likes and dislikes to select appropriate gifts for each child.
The program is designed to preserve the surprise of Christmas morning. Officials said they handle the shopping themselves so that children who still believe in Santa Claus can wake up to unexpected gifts.
“You tell us about your children, and we’ll take care of the rest,” the office stated in a release.
Donations of money, toys and gift cards are being accepted to support the effort. Contributions may be mailed or delivered to the Towns County Sheriff’s Office, 4070 State Highway 339, Young Harris, GA 30582.
The program aims to assist families facing financial challenges during the holidays and to show community support for local children, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
One community. One Christmas. Countless smiles, the office said in its announcement. Officials encouraged residents to share information about the program with families who may need assistance and with those willing to donate.
