HIAWASSEE, Ga. — Towns County deputies stopped a vehicle Tuesday on U.S. 76 East at Georgia 75 South during what the Sheriff’s Office described as an active investigation of a possible clandestine lab, briefly slowing traffic at the intersection.

The Sheriff’s Office posted that motorists should be patient because traffic would move slowly while deputies and investigators worked the scene. A later update said normal traffic on U.S. 76 East at Georgia 75 South was expected to resume within 30 to 45 minutes.

WJRB in Young Harris reported that Timothy Duffy, 34, of Hiawassee was arrested on four counts, including a funeral procession violation. The station said the car was stopped near the Georgia 75/U.S. 76 intersection, where traffic had been slowed.

The Sheriff’s Office thanked the public for its patience while deputies and investigators remained on scene. Additional charges and details of the investigation were not immediately released.
