Clay County, N.C. — A reported residential fire in the Trillium Heights subdivision prompted a response from Clay County Fire & Rescue on Friday evening, but crews ultimately found no active flames.
Just before 8 p.m., firefighters were dispatched to a home in the Fires Creek Fire District after reports of a structure fire. Upon arrival, crews encountered light smoke inside the residence.
During their investigation, firefighters discovered a tripped breaker in the electrical panel and detected an odor consistent with an electrical fire coming from a bathroom area.
Crews used thermal imaging cameras to check for any hidden fire within the walls or surrounding spaces. Officials said the method allowed firefighters to inspect the home without causing damage. No active fire was located.
Fire officials said the homeowner was fortunate, noting the situation could have escalated into a more serious incident. They emphasized the importance of properly functioning electrical panels and breakers in preventing significant damage or a full structure fire.
