Union County Defeats Rabun County in Straight Sets

TIGER, Ga. — Union County High School’s varsity volleyball team defeated Rabun County 2-0 in a non-conference match on Tuesday, Aug. 12, 2025, at Rabun County High School. The Panthers from Blairsville dominated both sets, winning 25-18 and 25-15, to improve their season record to 3-1.

Union County showcased their offensive prowess early, securing the first set with a commanding 25-18 scoreline. The second set saw an even stronger performance, as the Panthers pulled away with a 25-15 victory. Their balanced attack and solid defense proved too much for the home team.


Rabun County, now 3-3 on the season, struggled to find rhythm against Union County’s relentless pressure. Despite the loss, the Wildcats have shown competitiveness in their early season matches, holding a .500 win percentage with a 7-8 set record.


Union County’s team scoring averages reflect their consistency, with 23.8 points in the first set and 24.0 in the second across their matches this season. Rabun County, meanwhile, averages 22.3 points in the first set but drops to 16.5 in the second, a trend that continued in this matchup.


The Panthers’ victory adds to their strong start, with a 2-0 away record and a .750 win percentage. Rabun County, despite the setback, maintains a 1-0 away record and a 1-0 neutral record, indicating potential for a rebound as the season progresses.


This head-to-head win gives Union County a 1-0 edge over Rabun County in their series. Both teams will look to build on their early season performances as they head into league play.
