Union County Dispatchers Honored for Lifesaving Actions

BLAIRSVILLE, Ga. — Two Union County E911 communications officers were recognized Tuesday night for their quick thinking and compassion that helped save a life.
Sheriff Shawn Dyer presented Commendation Letters to Communications Officers Carrie King and Ashley Churchill for their recent response to a call involving a suicidal individual.
According to the Union County Sheriff’s Office, King and Churchill received a distress call from a person contemplating suicide. Remaining calm and professional throughout the conversation, the pair kept the caller engaged until deputies arrived on scene.
Their empathy and composure allowed deputies to safely approach and subdue the individual, ultimately separating him from his weapon and ensuring he received the help he needed.
Sheriff Dyer praised the dispatchers for their dedication and service, noting the critical role E911 personnel play during emergencies.
“We are extremely grateful for all of our dispatchers at Union County E911,” the Sheriff’s Office said in a statement. “They are the calm voice on the radio for us when we need them. Thank you to Officers King and Churchill for exemplifying such dedication to Union County through your truly lifesaving efforts.”
