Union County Fire Captain Completes Advanced Emergency Management Training

BLAIRSVILLE, Ga. — The Union County Fire Department is recognizing Captain Jeff Fortenberry for completing three additional emergency management courses over the past month, furthering his professional development and bringing him closer to Certified Emergency Manager (CEM) designation.

Fortenberry completed Preliminary Damage Assessment, Intermediate Emergency Operations Center Functions, and Disaster Recovery Programs. The training covers how to assess damage after an incident or disaster, the functions and responsibilities of an Emergency Operations Center, and the processes used to recover and restore communities after major events.

These courses give emergency management professionals practical knowledge needed before, during, and after disasters.

The additional training also advances Fortenberry toward the Certified Emergency Manager credential. The CEM designation is awarded to professionals who have demonstrated education, training, experience, and a commitment to the field of emergency management.

“Captain Fortenberry continues to go above and beyond to expand his knowledge and prepare himself for the challenges that come with emergency management,” Fire Chief David Dyer said. “The training he is completing not only benefits him professionally, but it also strengthens the Union County Fire Department and our community’s ability to prepare for, respond to, and recover from disasters.”
