UNION COUNTY, N.C. — Firefighters from the Union County Fire Department (UCFD) commemorated the 24th anniversary of the September 11 attacks by participating in the annual 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb at Panther Football Stadium in the early morning hours of September 11, 2025.
In full firefighting gear, UCFD members climbed approximately 2,200 stairs, symbolizing the 110 stories of the World Trade Center towers. The event paid tribute to the 343 New York City Fire Department (FDNY) firefighters who lost their lives responding to the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001.
The annual climb serves as a solemn reminder of the sacrifices made by first responders and honors their courage and dedication.
