Union County Students Explore Careers in Government and Public Safety

ree

BLAIRSVILLE, Ga. — Union County students had an engaging week learning about careers in government and public administration.

On Tuesday, 8th graders at Union County Middle School participated in Personal Safety Day. Members of Union County Fire & Rescue and the Georgia Department of Natural Resources provided hands-on lessons in ATV and boating safety, fire prevention, and proper use of fire extinguishers. Students also got a close-up look at specialized emergency response equipment.

Later in the week, 10th-grade Civics and Government students from Union County High School visited the Union County 911 Call Center. There, they observed how emergency calls are received, processed, and dispatched. Students learned about the importance of road signs and 911 markers, watched dispatchers coordinate real-time emergency responses, and asked questions about the work involved in keeping the community safe.

These experiences offered students a behind-the-scenes look at public safety professionals and connected classroom lessons to real-world careers in government and emergency services.
