Wildfire in Clay County Threatens Home, One Firefighter Injured

A fast-moving wildfire threatened homes in the Shooting Creek area Thursday afternoon, prompting a multi-agency response.
According to Clay County Fire and Rescue, crews were dispatched shortly after 3:30 p.m. on March 26 to the Shiloh Subdivision in the Shooting Creek Fire District following reports of a wildfire with structures at risk.
First responders arriving on scene found flames rapidly approaching a newly constructed home. Firefighters were able to quickly contain the blaze near the structure, limiting damage to minor impacts.
Additional crews worked to prevent the fire from crossing nearby roads and threatening other homes in the area.
Personnel from the North Carolina Forest Service and the U.S. Forest Service later assumed control of the scene and began containment efforts.
Officials said one firefighter with the North Carolina Forest Service sustained a minor injury and was treated at the scene by Clay County EMS.
The cause of the wildfire remains under investigation.
