ATLANTA, GA - The Georgia Department of Transportation has announced plans to widen and reconstruct SR 11/US 129 from SR 515 to Gumlog Road in Union County. The project, detailed in a letter dated July 31, 2025, aims to enhance safety and efficiency for the region's transportation system.
Consultant field crews will soon conduct soil surveys and test borings in the vicinity of affected properties to gather essential data for the project's design. The work may involve truck or all-terrain mounted drill rigs, with efforts focused on minimizing disruption. The department noted that personnel may need to enter private properties as authorized by Georgia law, ensuring minimal inconvenience to owners and occupants.
The initiative, overseen by GDOT Project Manager Oluchukwu Anyaeosi, includes collaboration with prime consultant Scott Gero of AECOM and sub-consultant Santanu Sinharoy of United Consulting. Work is expected to begin with site assessments, followed by construction of roadways and access roads, with heavily wooded areas potentially requiring additional preparation.
Contact information for project inquiries has been provided, with GDOT encouraging property owners to reach out for further details. The department emphasized that all work will be conducted professionally to reduce impact on the community.
