According to a report from WJRB Radio, the Blairsville man severely beaten in an attack last week is showing signs of recovery. Devon Davenport, who was airlifted to a Gainesville hospital after the incident, is now reportedly off life support and able to follow commands.
Davenport’s sister, Dawn Marie Davenport-Davis, shared an update on social media saying her brother faces a long road to recovery. She wrote that he will need “at minimum 10 surgeries to the face just for reconstruction of his soft palette, and ears, eyes, nose, and throat, plus having the tracheotomy and feeding tube put into his side.”
The beating left Davenport in critical condition following what authorities described as a violent altercation early last Wednesday.
Meanwhile, WJRB reports that Charles Bennett, Davenport’s uncle, has been booked into the Union County Jail and denied bond. Bennett was also treated locally for injuries sustained during the same incident before being released from the hospital on Friday.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation says Bennett and Davenport were involved in a fight that escalated, and Bennett is accused of attacking his nephew with a blunt object. He now faces charges of aggravated assault and aggravated battery.
The GBI continues to investigate the case.
