Phone Scam Targeting Blue Ridge Mountain EMC Members Prompts Warning

Blue Ridge Mountain EMC is warning members about a phone scam reported by multiple customers involving fraudulent claims of unpaid balances.

According to the utility, several members reported receiving calls from individuals claiming they owed money on their accounts. The callers allegedly instructed victims to visit a Dollar General store and purchase a specific form of payment.

BRMEMC officials emphasized that the company does not conduct business in that manner and will never request payments through retail stores or ask for sensitive information over unsolicited phone calls.

Customers are urged to remain cautious when receiving unexpected calls requesting personal or financial information. If something seems suspicious, officials recommend hanging up immediately and contacting the cooperative directly.

Members with concerns can reach BRMEMC through its toll-free number at 800-292-6456, the Georgia office at (706) 379-3121, or the North Carolina office at (828) 837-1017.

The utility is encouraging the public to stay alert and report any suspicious activity as scams targeting utility customers continue to circulate.
