Press Release

On 12/09/25 at 4:22 PM Clay County Investigator Steven Smith stopped a black Nissan truck at the intersection of Pine Log Church Road and Caler Road in Brasstown. The tuck was stopped for having a broken break light, failure to signal a turn, and having an unreadable license plate. Christopher Cody Wiggins, 26 years of age from Brasstown, was found to be driving the truck.

Mary Roberson of Brasstown was found to have been a passenger within the truck. Clay County Officers Sean Stout, Donovan Burke, and Investigator Brandon Coker quickly arrived to assist with this traffic stop.

Investigator Smith deployed his K-9, Luca, around the truck after which time Luca gave a positive alert for narcotics. A probable cause search of the truck was begun by the Officers. A small quantity of suspected marijuana was found on the small back seat of the truck. A Mossberg brand 12-gauge shotgun and a SKS brand 7.72 X 39 mm Chinese semiautomatic rifle were found in the rear floorboard area of the truck covered up with clothing and a blanket.

Both firearms were found in a “ready to fire” configuration.  Wiggins was found to have been a convicted felon and placed under arrest. Wiggin denied any knowledge of the firearms but when searched, Officers found a holster type pouch attached to his belt containing six unfired 12-gauge shotshells.

Wiggins was charged with felony Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon and held under no bond for a 72-hour hearing to follow. A $15,000 secured bond for Wiggins’ release was subsequently set by the court.

All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
