Cherokee County Man Arrested on Charges of Indecent Liberties with a Child

Murphy, NC — A 34-year-old man faces serious charges following an investigation by the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office into allegations of inappropriate conduct with a minor. On July 8, 2025, detectives launched an inquiry after receiving reports of possible indecent liberties involving an adult male and a juvenile.

After conducting interviews and reviewing evidence, authorities identified the suspect as Joshua James Dean. On July 18, 2025, detectives apprehended Dean without incident and served him with an outstanding warrant charging him with three counts of indecent liberties with a child, classified as a Class F felony.Dean was transported to the Cherokee County Detention Center, where a magistrate set his bond at $15,000 secured. He is scheduled to appear in court on August 14, 2025. Authorities emphasize that all individuals are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
