PEACHTREE, N.C. — Today, Lieutenant Mitch Morgan and Sheriff Chris Wood represented the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office at the Peachtree Community Center's Kids Summer Kickoff Event, joining numerous community groups, businesses, and agencies in celebrating the beginning of summer for local children.

The event brought together organizations from across the community to ensure that area youth had a fun, safe, and memorable start to their summer break. One of the highlights of the day was provided by Peachtree Fire and Rescue, which set up a drop tank filled with water where children could cool off and play throughout the event.

Sheriff Chris Wood also volunteered his time in the dunking booth, spending 45 minutes straight being dunked by enthusiastic participants. Lieutenant Morgan even took his own turn at the target, successfully sending Sheriff Wood into the refreshing water to the delight of the crowd.

Sheriff Wood emphasized the importance of positive interactions between young people and law enforcement.

"I think it is important that children have positive interaction with law enforcement throughout their lives to show them that we are there to help them, not to hurt," said Sheriff Wood. "I thank the Peachtree Community for inviting us and allowing us to interact with our most important resource—our children."

The Cherokee County Sheriff's Office appreciates the opportunity to participate in community events such as the Kids Summer Kickoff and remains committed to building strong relationships with the citizens it serves.
