Cherokee Guns Donates Patrol Rifles to Clay County Sheriff’s Office

The Clay County Sheriff’s Office has received a donation of five patrol rifles from local business owner Doc Wacholz, helping the agency begin replacing an aging inventory of equipment.

According to a statement shared on social media, Wacholz, owner of Cherokee Guns, presented the rifles to the department, a contribution officials say would have cost more than $5,000 if purchased.

Sheriff’s officials said the new rifles will enhance deputies’ ability to respond to calls while improving overall safety and preparedness. The donation comes as many agencies face budget constraints and rising equipment costs.

The sheriff’s office expressed appreciation not only for the equipment, but also for the continued support from the community.

“We are reminded how fortunate we are to have support from our communities,” the office said in its post, adding that staff at Cherokee Guns made the department feel welcome during the presentation.

Officials said the rifles will be placed into service as they work to phase out older equipment currently in use.
