HAYESVILLE, N.C. — With the federal government shutdown raising concerns about possible delays in assistance programs, several organizations across Clay County are making sure local families still have food on the table.
The Clay County Food Pantry on Hinton Center Road continues to serve residents every Thursday from 4 to 6 p.m. and Fridays from 9 a.m. to noon. The pantry is open to Clay County residents and TEFAP recipients. For more details, call 828-389-1657.
In Brasstown, the Brasstown Community Center at 255 Settawig Road offers food distributions every other Thursday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The next dates are October 30 and November 13. Clay County residents and TEFAP recipients are welcome to attend.
Matt’s Ministry, located at 123 WJ Cabe Road in Hayesville, provides another option for those in need, with food available every Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon. Director Maggie can be reached at 828-361-9083 for information.
Several local churches are also lending a helping hand. Hayesville First Methodist offers a Wednesday community meal from 4:30 to 6 p.m., and First Free Will Baptist holds a Third Thursday food distribution from noon to 2 p.m. for Clay County residents.
Anyone in need of additional assistance is encouraged to reach out to one of these pantries or call 828-389-1625 for more information.
As the community waits for clarity from Washington, Clay County’s churches, ministries, and volunteers continue to make sure no neighbor goes without a meal.
