The Clay County Board of Education recognized student and teacher achievements during its regular meeting Tuesday, Feb. 10, highlighting both professional excellence in the classroom and career readiness at the high school level.
Board members honored six Clay County Schools teachers for earning National Board Certification, one of the highest professional distinctions in education. All six educators earned certification as Early Childhood Generalists.
Recognized teachers included Christy McClure, 3rd grade; Meghan Taylor, 2nd grade; Tara Roberts, 2nd grade; Katie Danner, 3rd grade; Susan Rexroad, 3rd grade; and Adrianna Deaver, 2nd grade.
School officials congratulated the teachers on completing the rigorous, multi-year certification process, noting that their achievement reflects a strong commitment to instructional excellence and student success. With the addition of these six educators, Clay County Schools continues its designation as a National Board Accomplished District.
The board also heard a presentation from Hayesville High School Career and Technical Education student Adrian Fuentes, who shared details about his internship with Ledford & Parker, Inc.

Fuentes outlined the various duties he performed during the internship and discussed the hands-on skills he gained while working in the field. He told board members the experience played a key role in helping him decide to pursue a career as a diesel mechanic after graduating from high school.
Board members praised Fuentes for his presentation and highlighted the value of internships and work-based learning opportunities in preparing students for future careers.
