Clay County School Board Meeting Highlights: Student Achievements and Staff Recognition

Clay County, NC – On Monday, August 25, 2025, the Clay County Board of Education held a meeting to celebrate outstanding student achievements and recognize a key staff member’s professional milestone.

The board honored three Hayesville High School (HHS) students for their participation in prestigious experiential programs over the summer. Cailey Bowers was recognized for her selection to the Appalachian STEM Academy, where she engaged in hands-on STEM learning. Dalton Hunt was commended for his role as an NC Government Page, gaining insight into state governance. Wyatt James was celebrated for attending NC Boys State, a leadership and civic engagement program. The board extended heartfelt congratulations to these students for their accomplishments and for representing Clay County with distinction.
In addition to student recognitions, the board applauded Steve Lyvers, the district’s Maintenance Director, for earning an advanced HVAC certification. Mr. Lyvers was praised for his dedication to maintaining the district’s facilities, ensuring a safe and functional environment for students and staff. “We thank you for your hard work and commitment to keeping our campus running smoothly every day,” the board stated.
