HIAWASSEE, Ga. — The Hiawassee Downtown Development Authority and the City of Hiawassee will host the Enchanted Music on the Hiawassee Square, a free concert featuring the Dixie Tornados, on Saturday, Aug. 16, from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. at Hiawassee Town Square Park on Main Street.
The event will showcase the North Georgia-based band, formed around 2012 by musicians Greg Henderson, David Shipman, Jerry Wolfgang Wofford, and Eddie Gray. Known for reviving 1970s and 1980s country dance music and outlaw country hits, the group will perform songs by Waylon Jennings, Merle Haggard, Keith Whitley, George Strait, Hank Williams Sr. and Jr., and more. Each show features a unique setlist, with the band encouraging crowd participation.
The family-friendly event invites attendees to bring blankets or chairs, with well-behaved pets welcome if owners clean up after them. A VFW Auxiliary food truck will offer grilled hot dogs and other items starting at 6 p.m. Donations are appreciated to support the concert series, now in its 26th year.
Sponsors include the City of Hiawassee, Banister-Cooper Funeral Home, Barrett Insurance, Service Master Restoration, Hiawassee Package Store, and the Hiawassee Downtown Development Authority. The concert will be canceled in case of rain at the scheduled time.
