Press Release

On 05/14/26 at 10:05 AM Clay County Lt. Investigator Brandon Coker and Investigator JJ Wooten stopped a 1999 red Ford Escort at the intersection of US Hwy 64 West and Fort Hembree Road in Hayesville. The Escort was stopped because Eugene Joshua Ashe, 45 years of age from Hayesville, was noted to be a passenger within the car. Ashe had an outstanding warrant for his arrest for Felony Uttering Of A Forged Instrument.

Ashe and the driver were told the reason for the vehicle stop. Ashe was removed from the car, handcuffed, and searched. During this process, Investigator Wooten saw a plastic baggy containing a crystal-like substance fall to the ground and Ashe stepped on top off it. Investigator Wooten retrieved this item that Ashe attempted to conceal. The contents of the baggy field tested positive for methamphetamine. Ashe was arrested on the original outstanding warrant and Felony Possession of Methamphetamine. Ashe was given a $25,000 secured bond for his release.

All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
