Hayesville Splits Games with SMC Opponent

The Hayesville Yellow Jackets had a split night on their home hardwood Friday, highlighted by a tight bounce-back win from the Lady Jackets and a tough conference loss for the boys’ team.

Hayesville’s girls shook off a loss earlier in the week and responded with a gritty 45-42 victory over Robbinsville on Friday. The win marked the Yellow Jackets’ closest victory since Jan. 13 and showed their ability to finish in pressure moments.

The Lady Jackets have been on an impressive run, winning 10 of their last 11 games to improve to 15-7 on the season. Robbinsville saw its three-game winning streak come to an end and slipped to 11-8.

Both teams now turn their attention to road games. Hayesville will travel to Andrews for a 6:30 p.m. matchup Monday, while Robbinsville heads to Nantahala on Saturday for a 6 p.m. tipoff.

On the boys’ side, Hayesville struggled to keep pace with Robbinsville in a 65-44 home conference loss Friday night. The Black Knights led from the opening quarter and steadily pulled away, outscoring Hayesville in every period.

Robbinsville took a 32-20 lead into halftime and maintained control throughout the second half. Hayesville was outscored 19-13 in the final quarter as Robbinsville sealed the win.

Despite the setback, the Yellow Jackets will look to regroup as postseason play approaches, while the Lady Jackets continue to build momentum down the stretch of the season.

Hayesville travels to Andrews on Monday, Feb. 9 to take on the Wildcats.
