Hiawassee Ceremony Honors Holocaust Victims Through Daffodil Project Remembrance

Community members gathered in Hiawassee for a remembrance ceremony honoring children lost during the Holocaust, as part of the global The Daffodil Project.

The event, held at the Children’s Daffodil Gardens, was hosted by the Towns-Union Master Gardener Association and also took place in nearby Blairsville. Organizers described the turnout as strong, with community members coming together to reflect and remember.

Mark Noyd, project manager, and Grace Howard were recognized for their efforts in organizing the ceremony. During the event, a local family read aloud three biographies of children who perished in the Holocaust, offering a personal and emotional connection to the historical tragedy.

Pastor Roy Perrin delivered remarks and led a prayer as part of the ceremony.

The event concluded with the symbolic planting of additional children’s biographies within the garden. While the flowers will bloom seasonally, organizers emphasized that the stories they represent will endure.

Community members are encouraged to visit the gardens in Hiawassee to view the daffodils and learn more about the lives they honor. Organizers also expressed gratitude to the many volunteers who helped make the event possible, highlighting the strength and support of the local community.
