The high school basketball postseason continues to thin the field for Mountain Buzz area teams, with several local programs seeing their playoff runs come to an end.
Eliminated from contention are the Hayesville boys, Towns County boys, Towns County girls and Union County boys, closing the book on their 2025 playoff journeys.
Action resumes Thursday, Feb. 26, as North Carolina’s postseason marches on with multiple area teams still alive across two classifications.
In the 1A bracket, Andrews will face The College Prep & Leadership Academy, while Hiwassee Dam remains busy on both sides of the ball. The Lady Eagles are set to take on North Stokes, and the Eagles will square off against Thomas Jefferson Classical Academy.
The 2A slate features a trio of matchups with local interest. Hayesville’s Lady Yellow Jackets meet Community School of Davidson, Murphy’s Lady Bulldogs draw Highland Tech, and the Murphy Bulldogs will challenge Albemarle.
Across the state line, one Georgia team continues to carry the Mountain Buzz banner. The Union County Lady Panthers remain in the hunt and will take on Thomson on Friday, Feb. 27, with a chance to keep their playoff dreams alive.
As the brackets tighten and the stakes rise, the remaining teams know there’s little margin for error from here on out.
