Inmates Baptized at Towns County Detention Center

HIAWASSEE, Ga. — The Towns County Sheriff’s Office and Detention Center hosted a baptism service for inmates Thursday, Sept. 17, describing the gathering as a day of faith and new beginnings inside the facility.
Officials said they were grateful for the presence of Greg Harrell and Larry Hedden of First Free Will Baptist Church of Hayesville and the church’s Men’s Ministry, who led the service. The sheriff’s office thanked the men for their continued work with inmates, citing their time, dedication, and compassion.

“Their willingness to minister, encourage, and share their faith makes a meaningful difference in the lives of those they serve,” the office said. “Thank you for being there today and for helping provide an opportunity for these men to take this important step in their faith journey.”
The statement also recognized volunteers who regularly bring hope, encouragement, and the message of God’s love into the detention center.
First Free Will Baptist Church of Hayesville, located just across the state line in Clay County, North Carolina, has an established jail ministry among its outreach programs. Harrell and Hedden are part of that men’s ministry effort.
