The Hayesville Lady Yellow Jackets came back down to earth Friday night, suffering their first defeat of the young season with a 47-38 loss to the Highlands Highlanders. The defeat drops Hayesville's early season record to 1-1.
After a dominant performance against Blue Ridge Early College earlier in the week, the Yellow Jackets ran into a Highlanders squad that seemed determined to exact a measure of revenge. It appears the Highlanders hadn't forgotten their last meeting with Hayesville back in February, delivering a dose of the Yellow Jackets' own medicine on their home court.
Highlands showed why their gym is quickly becoming a fortress, extending their home winning streak to six games dating back to last season and pushing their overall record to 2-1.
The Lady Yellow Jackets don't have long to dwell on the loss as they prepare for some familiar inter-conference action next week. Hayesville is set to hit the road to face Summit Charter, this Wednesday at 6:00 p.m. Fans can anticipate a high-intensity matchup as Hayesville looks to rebound and get back into the win column.
Meanwhile, the Highlands Highlanders will carry their momentum into their own game, taking on Cherokee at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
