Lake Chatuge Shoreline Cleanup Set For Nov. 7

Volunteers are being invited to take part in the 16th annual Lake Chatuge Shoreline Cleanup, an effort to help protect and preserve the lake and its surrounding environment near Hiawassee, Georgia.
The cleanup is scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 7, from 9 to 11 a.m. at Lake Chatuge Beach. Volunteers will gather at the Towns County Swim Beach Pavilion, located across from the Georgia Mountain Fairgrounds, before being assigned shoreline cleanup locations.
MountainTrue will provide volunteers with trash bags, gloves and safety information. Coffee and grab-and-go breakfast snacks also will be available before participants head out to their assigned locations.
Free T-shirts will be available to the first 45 volunteers.
The annual event brings together volunteers who want to help maintain the lake's shoreline and protect its natural resources. Lake Chatuge spans the Georgia-North Carolina state line, with shoreline areas in Towns County, Georgia, and Clay County, North Carolina.
Those interested in participating are asked to register through MountainTrue's website at mountaintrue.org.
For additional information, contact event organizer Savannah Lytle at 828-617-0827 or savannah@mountaintrue.org.
The cleanup is part of MountainTrue's ongoing efforts to protect water quality and preserve Lake Chatuge.
