HAYESVILLE, N.C. — The third annual Masonic Fishing Tournament, set for Saturday, Sept. 6, from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m., will cast lines at Lake Chatuge to raise funds for the Masonic Home for Children and a local scholarship fund. The event, meeting at Ledford Chapel Boat Ramp, promises a day of fishing and community support for a cause that has aided children since 1873.
Registration forms are available at Georges Hardware, Historic Hayesville Inc. Centennial Exhibit, Masons Lodge at 104 Sanderson St., and Interstate Welding in Murphy. On-site registration opens at 5:30 a.m. on the event day, with all entries due by 6:40 a.m. The entry fee is $100 per boat, with an optional $10 Big Fish Pot. Prizes include $1,000 for first place, $500 for second, $100 for third, and additional awards based on participant numbers.
A complimentary breakfast will be provided, with donations welcomed. Proceeds will support the Masonic Home for Children, formerly the Oxford Orphanage, the first children’s home in North Carolina, and a local scholarship fund for young adults.
