MURPHY, N.C. — The Town of Murphy and Cherokee County Tourism Development Authority are inviting families across the region to join in a patriotic weekend full of free community events as the nation prepares to mark its 250th birthday.
The America 250 Celebration Weekend gets underway Thursday, July 2, at Konehete Veterans Park with a free kids' movie night featuring Disney’s “Zootopia 2.” Bounce house fun begins at 5:00 p.m., with the movie scheduled to start at approximately 9:15 p.m. under the stars.
On Friday, July 3, the park will host Cherokee County’s first-ever drone show at dark. The high-tech aerial display promises a spectacular tribute to America’s heritage and freedom.
The weekend culminates on Saturday, July 4, with the Cherokee County America 250 Heritage Festival in downtown Murphy. The festival runs from 4:00 p.m. until dark and will feature live music, cultural performances, family activities, food vendors, and special deals from local restaurants and retailers. The evening will close with a fireworks display launched from downtown Murphy, offering excellent viewing right in the heart of town.
“These events will create three days of family-friendly activities celebrating our community, its heritage, and America’s 250th birthday,” said Murphy Mayor Tim Radford.
All events are free and open to the public. Organizers encourage residents and visitors to come out and enjoy the patriotic spirit and small-town charm that make Cherokee County special.
